Web26 Apr 2007 · M70 based on the '03 Springfield, Remington came out with a short barreled, lightly stocked, fixed sight sporting rifle actually made of surplus P17 parts. Eventually, Remington went to a more graceful 30S and ultimately to the M700. Savage came out with a simplified bolt action to handle the more powerful rounds. No such thing as a "commercial" Springfield action, although they sold rifles, barrelled actions, and actions through the NRA for a long time.
