Make sure your cover is tight and secured as high up on the sled sides as your can get it or it will get packed with snow or slush, fall under your sled and get torn up. On hardpacked snow, my sled was gliding okay but in any depths of snow the sled was sinking, and despite only sinking a few inches was killer and very difficult to drag.

Web23 Dec 2024 · Here's my smitty sled plans. 5'x4' with 2"x6" runners and 2"x4" cross members and plenty of eye bolts. I'm putting 1/4"x1.5"x5' UHMV strips on the bottom with 2" galvanized screws which will be countersunk and the runners are pressure treated. I plan on cutting the notched angles to reduce the weight by 20-30% maybe.
