WebMay 13, 2010 · Loosen the two pinch bolts in the bottom fork leg clamp before doing any adjustments and remember to retighten them when you're finished . Use a rubber hammer and bip the clamps a few times to loosen the fork legs . I think the cap screws on , use a strap wrench . The washer locks the stem nut after final adjustment .

WebMay 19, 2010 · There's only dust seals on HD neck bearings, no actual grease seals and half the trick of using a grease gun is using it correctly, and not filling 10 gallons of grease into a 1 gallon space. {wink} The mod is performed by HD from the factory on FL models to prevent having to take the neck apart to regrease the bearings. That's correct the Rushmore bikes have no neck bearing grease fitting the service manual calls for the neck bearings to be repacked as part of the 25,000 mile service. One thing they did that was stupid on the newer touring bikes in my opinion.
WebSep 22, 2010 · Lucas Red 'n Tacky #2 grease which you can pick up at Advance Auto. Its colored red which helps you see it when it starts oozing out from the steering neck column bearings. I've not had a problem with it running due to heat. It will come out from the bottom bearing area first. If the forks binds, or it feels like it has detents or notches in any position, it’s a safe bet that the steering head bearings have become dented and need replacing.
