Before all the nerfs, you needed 2 kills for a pip and 4 kills for a double pip. You could also get -1 pip or -2 pips ( Disgraceful defeat). If you were red rank and feel not ready for it, then you are stuck with it till rank reset. No matter what you do, even if you do nothing in a match, you will never derank from your current grade haha good luck with that.
